Final conference of the RENEWSM project

On February 27, 2024, the final conference of the RENEWSM project took place in Satu Mare. The event was attended by representatives from the mass media, local public authorities, the business environment and NGOs in the field of environmental protection. The conference was opened by the President of the Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association, Mr. Pataki Csaba, and by Mr. Leif Grandum, representative of partner Vista Analyse from Norway. The conference program included the presentation of the project and its results, the presentation of the report on the potential of renewable energy in Satu Mare County developed within the project by the Norwegian partner, and discussions on possible projects in the field of renewable energy that could be implemented in the near future in Satu Mare County.

The RENEWSM project had a duration of 12 months and was supported by a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants 2014-2021, within the " Energy Programme in Romania". The total value of the project was 163,205 Euros, of which 138,724 Euros represents funding from the EEA Grants. The main objective of the RENEWSM project is to consolidate knowledge and increase the degree of awareness of the population of Satu Mare County regarding renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy security.

Project activities included:

  • a public campaign to increase the level of knowledge regarding renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy security (1000 students and 1000 adults from Satu Mare County);
  • the elaboration by the partner Vista Analyse AS of a report on the potential of renewable energy in Satu Mare County;
  • a training for 40 representatives of public institutions and NGOs regarding alternative energy sources, energy efficiency and energy security;
  • an exchange of experience in the form of a study visit to Norway for 10 representatives of the Association and local public authorities.

The main achievements of the project in the medium and long term are:

  • increased knowledge on renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and energy security for 50 representatives of local authorities and institutions, which in the long term will lead to less carbon-intensive and increased security of supply;
  • raise awareness on renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and energy security for 2.000 inhabitants of Satu Mare county.
