New project: Studying economic benefits of introducing requirements in measurement technology

Oslo, 22.03.2022

On behalf of the Norwegian Metrology Service and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, Vista Analyse, in cooperation with SANDS, will carry out an investigation of introducing requirements in legislation and regulations in new areas within measurement technology. The Norwegian Metrology Service is particularly interested in areas where measurement is not part of economic calculations. Relevant areas that have been highlighted are:

  1. Natural resource management
  2. Emissions
  3. New energy sources

Within these areas, we will, in dialogue with the Norwegian Metrology Service and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, investigate where it is appropriate to introduce altered measurement requirements, and choose one measurement within each of the areas to investigate further. We will choose one of these measurements as a main example, and perform a cost-benefit analysis of imposing technical regulations in this measurement. The other two measurements will be treated as deviations from the first, evaluating potential benefits of a change.

Vista and SANDS are well underway with the first phase of the project. We hope the work can contribute to a better understanding of the possible economic benefits of measurements.
